The Ladies Auxiliary seeks to enhance the lives of Salem Home residents through the fund-raising activities they undertake…
ABBY is new ambient technology (which means it is always available) that is changing the lives of people with dementia in long-term care. It is a wall-mounted electronic display board designed to engage residents through touchscreen activities, familiar tactile experiences – such as turning a wheel or flipping a switch – and a mix of personalized images and media. Turning the steering wheel brings up images on a screen that looks like you are driving down a street. It is possible to upload local images as well, which helps to trigger memories.
Research shows that using an ABBY reduces agitation, anxiety and aggression. It also helps families engage in conversation with their loved one. Children can do these activities with their grandparent.
When you realize that 89% of our residents have some level of dementia, with many having some form of responsive behaviours, it is to provide resources for our residents and staff that help engage the residents and mitigate these behaviours. Any assistance we can provide for our frontline workers is a benefit to our residents.
One “ABBY” costs $8,000 and it would be very beneficial purchase one for the Cottonwood Care Area.
Your donations today, as well participating in “Faspa-in-a-Box” will help make that possible.
