Hello to all Families:
We realize that it has only been a couple of weeks since the last communication with you. In that time the active cases of COVID-19 in Winkler and surrounding area have been steadily climbing. The numbers are likely higher than what is being reported, given the significant increase in activity at the local hospital. Given this new reality, we are asking families cooperation in keeping their loved one healthy.
It may not be that we can prevent the virus from re-entering the facility, but it is our responsibility and obligation to ensure that residents stay safe while in our care. This is part of the provincial mandate given to Personal Care Homes.
On May 20, 2021, more restrictions were announced and consequently, please note the following changes for Salem Home starting May 22, 2021:
Designated Family Caregivers
No changes in visitation times. Continue to be:
- Monday – Friday: 10 AM – 5:45 PM
- Saturday & Sunday: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Please note that we will NOT have someone answering the door between:
- 12:00 – 12:30 PM
- 5:00 – 5:30 PM
The Designated Family Caregiver is NOT allowed to take the resident outside for a walk anymore or to meet with other family members.
- Visits in the shelters will be suspended until further notice. This is in keeping with the provincial decision of staying within your “household only”. General visitors are not considered part of the residents’ household.
COVID positive cases
In recent weeks, we have had four staff cases. One has recovered and the remaining three are isolating at home. At this time, it appears that staff have not acquired COVID at Salem Home, but rather through community transmission. We continue to monitor residents closely for symptoms and will inform families should illness present.
