On Thursday, October 6, 2022 Salem Foundation, together with Salem Ladies Auxiliary are excited to again host the “Building for Tomorrow” Fundraising Dinner at the Winkler Mennonite Church (31 Willowdale Crescent, Winkler).  Doors will open at 6:00 pm; with Dinner at 6:30pm. The cost is $100 per person (with $50 tax receipt); or a table for eight (8) can be purchased for $800 (with $400 tax receipt).

Proceeds from the Dinner will go towards Cottonwood Residents Room Renovation – Phase II, which is 19 rooms. Cottonwood resident rooms are original to 1972.  With many residents living with dementia, it is important that the environment they live in assists them in finding their way. The cost of renovation is anticipated to be $1.5 million.  Each room will cost approx. $25,000 includes bed, lifts, draperies, comforters, wayfinding door and lights.

The event will feature Wilma Derksen, a Certified Executive Coach, a member of the International Coaching Federation, and author of the Book “The way of Letting Go”.

Wilma has an empathetic understanding ‘of the journey of healing and restoration’.  Mother of Candace, who was kidnapped and killed in 1984 when she was 13, and wife to the late Cliff Derksen, who founded Candace House along with his wife Wilma following their daughter’s murder.  Candace House, a safe haven for victims of crime and their families who are navigating the court system, the first of its kind offering counselling, programs and space for community support group.

Salem Foundation raises funds for programs, equipment and projects for Salem Home, which are not funded through government sources; while Salem Ladies Auxiliary’s role is to participate in activities that enhance the well-being of the residents.  Together, the primary purpose of both are to provide funding for the betterment of the residents’ lives today and in the future!

The common goal of both Salem Foundation and Salem Ladies Auxiliary to provide Salem Home Residents with the best possible lived experience in an environment where they can flourish, is the incentive for this annual fundraising venture.  We are excited about the October 6th Building for Tomorrow Dinner and the opportunity to have a speaker like Wilma Derksen tell of her journey and challenges us to put our faith into action as we care for the most vulnerable in our community.

Tickets for the event are available at the Salem Home Foundation office (165 15th Street, Winkler) Monday to Friday from 9-4pm or by calling 204-325-4316; by e-transfer (directions can be found by clicking HERE )
