Support Services

The Salem Home Support Services department includes both Nutrition and Laundry services.

Nutrition

Our Nutrition Services department is responsible for providing:

• food services to residents
• cafeteria services for staff and visitors
• meals for participants of the Adult Day Program
• Meals on Wheels Program for the seniors in the commmunity
• catering for organization events

To ensure quality, prior to sending out the meals to the residents the cooks sample the meal prepared.  The cooks and staff then serve the residents in their dining rooms throughout the facility.  A Registered Dietition ensures that special care is taken to address the unique dietary needs of the residents.

The Nutrition Services staff take great pride in developing and preparing the food items that come from their kitchen.  The residents meals are based on a five week rotation, based on the seasons of the year. 

The staff also provide a cafeteria menu separate from the resident menu for staff and visitors.  It is important for staff to have a different meal when they have been assisting residents with their meal.  The daily specials are well worth the trip, and so are the calories!  Please note that the cafeteria special indicated on the electronic menu board is subject to change.

Laundry

We don’t let this service go unnoticed. Our Laundry Service handles over 30,000 pounds (14,500 kg) of laundry each month! That includes all the personal clothing of residents. 

The staff graciously ensure that tablecloths are available daily for meal service which gives the residents a more home like dining experience.  In addition, they ensure that extra blankets are available for use in the blanket warmers increasing resident comfort.

The Laundry Staff interact with the residents on a daily basis - bringing the residents their laundry, clean linens, and doing minor mending tasks.

Integrated Housekeeping

At Salem Home, housekeeping is integrated into Resident Care Services.  The primary role of housekeeping is to clean the physical spaces within the facility, however, integrated housekeepers interact with the residents in many ways

• assisting residents with their meals,
• portering residents to meals and chapel services, and
• lending a hand when a resident wishes to take a nap.

  

We are proud of the work our housekeepers do.  They use the micro-fibre based cleaning system, which is a significant contributing factor to keeping resident infection rates below the average norm in a personal care home setting.
