Leadership

Board of Directors

Salem Home is governed by a board of 13 Mennonite Churches of Southern Manitoba

The guidance and support of the Governing Board is crucial to Salem Home's continued success.  It is also the signature of the churches' commitment to providing care to the elders in their community. The corporation consists of these congregations:

  • Bethel Bergthaler Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Blumenort Mennonite Church - Gretna
  • Emmanuel Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Grace Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Mennonite Brethren Church - Winkler
  • Old Colony Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Plum Coulee Bergthaler Mennonite Church - Plum Coulee
  • Reinland Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Sommerfeld Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Winkler Evangelical Mission Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Winkler Mennonite Church - Winkler
  • Zion Mennonite Church- Schanzenfeld

Each congregation is represented on the board by an appointed member for a total of 18 board members.  The number of board members is based on the formulas outlined in the corporation's By-Laws.  Congregations send delegates to the Annual General Meeting held every June where the board and administration report back to the churches and highlight issues that will be coming in the future.

The board uses a model of Governance that incorporates faith principles, business principles, and relationship principles.  As a Christ-centred care provider affiliated with the Mennonite faith, policies are developed and care and services are provided in a manner that is consistent with, and expressive of, Mennonite values and ethics.

The Governing Board's Strategic Plan is based on four persectives:

  • Perspective I - Provide Leadership & Framework for Furthering Excellence by Investing in the Future (Learning and Growth)
  • Perspective II - Provide Leadership & Framework for Furthering Care by Fostering Relationships (Relationships)
  • Perspective III - Provide Leadership & Framework Which Enhances a Proactive and Supportive Organization (Business Processes to Meet Mandates)
  • Perspective IV - Provide Leadership & Framework Which Enhances Effective Use of Resources ( Financial Mandates)

In 2008, the Governing Board adopted an olive tree as their organizational chart.  The Governing Board is represented by the roots.  Roots must be strong and deep if a tree is to grow and thrive.  So too, there must be strong values based governance in order for our organization to continue to grow, innovate, and meet the challenges of the day.
